Huffer named conference pitcher of the week

Concord University junior Donovan Huffer was named the WVIAC Pitcher of the Week following the opening week of play in the conference.

Huffer, who also plays shortstop at Concord, pitched a complete game in a 3-1 victory over Mansfield. He worked seven innings and allowed six hits, all singles, and no earned runs. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.

At the plate this season Huffer is batting .400 (6-for-15) with four doubles.

Huffer ,who played shortstop for the Staunton Braves last year, has signed a contract to return to the Braves in 2009.
